An end of life doula (EOLD) is a support person for people who have a short time left to live and the people who love them. End of life doulas vary widely in the services they offer. Some only offer consultations for things such as getting one’s affairs in order, while others will transport clients to medical appointments, offer respite care to caregivers, or even sit vigil when a person is actively dying. 

I have been doing end of life work in one form or another since I was twelve years old, so looking back over the time I have spent with family, friends, and later clients, a good guess would be several thousand hours of experience.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice and missed appointments with no notice are billed $ 60. 

After we chat on the phone briefly to see whether it seems to be a good fit, we will set up an initial 75-minute consultation. After that, follow up consulations are for 45-minutes. Companion care is $ 40 per hour with a 2 hour minimum. 

Insurance does not cover end of life doula visits, however, some people do have certain types of long-term care insurance that may help cover the cost of aides to assist with activities of daily living.
